What do homeowners say about heat pumps?
Heat pumps are one of the most common upgrades installed through the Clean Energy Financing program. For homeowners heating with oil or electric baseboards, these appliances can reduce costs over winter while also providing comforting cooling in summer.
We’ve talked about the various benefits of heat pumps before, but what are homeowners saying? Let’s check in with some who have installed heat pumps with the help of Clean Energy Financing.
Reduced heating bills and finding summer comfort in Bridgewater
Moving into a new home often brings some surprises. For Jessica in Bridgewater that surprise was a $5,000 oil bill which prompted her to install four heat pumps in her home. Not only did it bring down Jessica’s heating costs, the heat pumps also gave her more options for cooling her home in the summer.
“The dehumidifier setting on the heat pump has been great for summer with the humidity,” she said. “It’s more cost effective than running the air conditioning, which is a nice perk.”
Swapping electric baseboards for heat pumps
While heating with electric baseboards can mean you avoid expensive oil bills, heat pumps are generally the more efficient electric option.
This became apparent to Mark and Lisa, who were finding it expensive to heat their large home with just baseboards.
“We were only heating parts of the house we used,” said Lisa. “We would spend most of our time in the living room, so that was warm, but it was cold in the other places that we didn’t heat.”
The couple’s new heat pump, combined with new insulation added to the ceiling, resulted in a noticeable improvement to the affordability of heating their home.
