New home energy upgrades bring summer comfort to Bridgewater home
Baseboard heating was proving to be a costly endeavour for Bridgewater homeowners Mark and Lisa Talbot. The result was continued rising power costs to keep their large family home heated.
“We were only heating parts of the house we used,” said Lisa. “We would spend most of our time in the living room, so that was warm, but it was cold in the other places that we didn’t heat.”
The couple knew they needed to find a way to make their home heating more affordable so they turned to Clean Energy Financing for help. The program helps homeowners in 12 municipalities across Nova Scotia finance home energy upgrades. Through the program Mark and Lisa were able to finance the addition of heat pumps to their home and add more insulation into their roof.
“The fact that you don’t have to pay any money upfront is the reason I was able to participate,” said Lisa.
The new upgrades to the family home have really made a significant difference to their lives.
“The insulation has made a huge difference to temperature stability,” said Lisa. “The first week it was installed the weather was really hot. We had the cooling on for three hours which cooled the whole house and then it stayed cool for a long time thanks to the new insulation.”
Both Lisa and Mark are looking forward to their first winter in their energy efficient home. They are also enjoying the benefits this summer of having a cool and comfortable space for the whole family.
“My daughter is a waitress, a cooler home means she can come home from a hard day’s work in the summer and have a comfortable sleep,” said Lisa.
