What Homeowners Say About Clean Energy Financing

The Clean Energy Financing program has been helping homeowners in 12 municipalities across Nova Scotia install heat pumps, insulation, solar panels and a range of other home energy upgrades.

We’ve asked a few homeowners why they chose Clean Energy Financing, and how the program has made their home more comfortable. Let’s see what they had to say.

Bringing heating affordability to a large home

Large homes can be an expensive challenge when it comes to keeping them warm over winter. For Mark and Lisa, this involved making tough decisions about how they used their heat to make it more affordable, as they only had electric baseboards.

“We were only heating the parts of the house we used. We would spend most of our time in the living room, so that was warm, but it was cold in other places.”

Through Clean Energy Financing, the couple were able to add heat pumps and increase the insulation level in their home. Heat pumps are significantly more efficient than baseboards for heating, and Lisa says the insulation has “made a huge difference to temperature stability”.

Rebates make energy upgrades affordable

Tom knew he wanted to make a few changes to his Bridgewater home, such as adding a heat pump to his existing ductwork, but was worried about the upfront costs. Thankfully, he came across a Clean Energy Financing pamphlet.

“Rebates are always enticing, and they make it much more affordable for what you are financing,” he said.

While he describes himself as “fairly handy”, Tom also appreciated getting advice from an expert during his Home Energy Assessment and recommends the process to all homeowners.

Consistent customer service makes for a smooth process

Jessica’s multi-level family home was made even more cozy with the addition of four heat pumps, but it wasn’t just the heating upgrades that left her feeling warm.

“Having one customer representative has been really helpful,” she says. “It’s nice to have the same person every time you call so they know who you are and the details of your case. Fran gave me a checklist to help me get everything sorted. It was really helpful and instilled confidence.”
