How to apply for Clean Energy Financing
Clean Energy Financing helps homeowners in 12 participating municipalities across Nova Scotia finance home energy upgrades. Whether you want to install heat pumps, add insulation where it’s missing or attach solar panels to your roof, one of our Home Energy Advisors will help to identify the most suitable upgrades for your home.
Here’s how you can apply for Clean Energy Financing and get home energy upgrades that save you money.
Check program eligibility
Clean Energy Financing is not income tested, and there is no maximum income limit for applicants. Instead, homeowners may qualify for low interest financing if:
- They own a detached, semi-detached or row house (multi-unit buildings are not eligible for the program).
- All of the property owners consent to participation in the program.
- The property has been in good standing with respect to municipal taxes, rates or charges.
- The residence is in a participating municipality.
- The Town of Amherst also requires a credit check for each homeowner.
Start the application process
You can apply for Clean Energy Financing through the online form found on each municipality page. If you need assistance completing the online forms, you can reach out to us at:
- cleanenergyfinancing@cleanfoundation.ca
- 1-844-727-7818
On the application form, we need to know:
- Your personal details.
- The location of your home.
- Your Assessment Role Number or Property Tax Number.
- Your home’s current heat source.
Next steps
Once we receive your application form and confirm your eligibility, the next step is to book a Home Energy Assessment with Clean Foundation. One of our Home Energy Advisors will assess your home and recommend an upgrade or set of upgrades, as well as inform you of available rebates.
Then, it’s up to you to collect quotes from contractors and book them to complete the work. Once you receive their invoices, you pass them to us and we pay the contractors for you.
Once all work is complete you’ll start to pay back the financing to your municipality. The method of payment and schedule is different in each location, but most are monthly. There are no penalties for lump sum payments or for paying the financing off early.
